I am Safuvan CK, a digital marketing professional and bakery marketing consultant in Kerala. I help food brands, bakeries and retail chains turn local moments into footfall, sales and loyal customers.

Between October 2024 and August 2025, my work with Apsara Bakes, a Kannur bakery chain founded in 1980, delivered the following results:

  • One moment-marketing reel gained 10,000+ Instagram followers in 2 days.
  • The Christmas cake fruit-mixing ceremony was billed as the biggest in Kannur.
  • A first-ever Ramadan Iftar Box sold about 1,000 pieces in about 10 days.
  • A customer retention campaign brought 3,000+ customers to 15+ outlets and recorded ₹1.5 crore+ in business in one month. The prize budget was just two tickets to Malaysia.

This case study explains the ideas, execution and results behind each campaign.

About Apsara Bakes and this marketing project

Apsara Bakes (Mayan's Apsara Bakes) is a bakery brand from Kannur district, Kerala. It started in Iritty in 1980 and is run today by Apsara Bakes Private Limited, incorporated in 2016. It sells cakes, snacks, savouries and seasonal products through 15+ outlets.

The brand had decades of local trust but little reach online. The goal was to make a much-loved village bakery visible far beyond its town, and to bring customers back to the outlets more often.

My role covered marketing strategy, campaign ideas, moment marketing, reels and content, event promotion, seasonal product launches, the customer retention campaign and search visibility.

1. Moment marketing: 10,000 followers in 2 days from one reel

In early November 2024, we turned a moment people were already talking about into an Apsara Bakes reel. The reel gained the brand 10,000+ new Instagram followers within 2 days.

Moment marketing works when a brand reacts fast, in its own voice, to something its audience already cares about. For a bakery, this meant:

  • spotting the moment early and posting while interest was at its peak
  • connecting the moment naturally to the product, not just adding a logo
  • writing for local Malayali humour and emotion, so people wanted to share it
  • using the follower spike to grow a lasting audience for later campaigns

These followers became the audience for every campaign that came after, including the cake mixing ceremony, the Iftar Box and the retention campaign.

2. The biggest Christmas cake fruit-mixing ceremony in Kannur

In November 2024, Apsara Bakes hosted its Christmas cake fruit-mixing ceremony, billed as the biggest in Kannur.

Fruit mixing is a pre-Christmas tradition. Dried fruits and nuts are soaked together weeks before the plum cakes are baked. We made this behind-the-scenes kitchen step into a public community event.

  • An event worth attending: customers and the local community were invited to take part, not just watch.
  • An event worth filming: the scale and the colour of the mixing made strong reel and story content.
  • An event worth searching for: a named, yearly event gives people something specific to search for, share and come back to.

The ceremony also launched the Christmas cake season, linking the brand to a festive tradition right before the year's busiest cake-buying weeks.

3. From a village bakery to global visibility, in Google and AI search

Apsara Bakes began in Iritty, a small town in Kannur district. Today its Instagram reaches people far beyond the outlets' delivery area, including Malayalis living outside Kerala.

Visibility also means being found when people search. When someone asks Google or an AI assistant such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity about Apsara Bakes' programmes, the brand and its events appear in the answers. What helps a local business show up in search and AI answers:

  • One consistent name: the same brand and event names on Instagram, Google listings and the website, so search engines treat them as one entity.
  • Specific, factual posts: each post states what, where, when and for whom, which is what AI answers quote.
  • Repeated, named events: yearly programmes like the cake mixing ceremony build search demand year after year.
  • Social proof: real customer videos and testimonials signal that the business is active and trusted.

This is generative engine optimisation (GEO) for a local business: making the brand easy for AI to understand, trust and recommend.

4. Customer retention campaign: ₹1.5 crore+ in one month across 15+ outlets

In August 2025, we ran a customer retention campaign across all 15+ Apsara Bakes outlets. In one month, 3,000+ customers took part and the outlets recorded ₹1.5 crore+ in business. The campaign's prize cost was just two tickets to Malaysia.

Customers could take part through their purchases at any outlet, and two winners received the Malaysia trip. Why it worked:

  • One big, simple reward: a foreign trip is easier to remember and talk about than a small discount on every bill.
  • A reason to come back: the campaign brought existing customers back to the outlets during the campaign month.
  • All outlets together: one message across 15+ outlets made the campaign feel big and fair.
  • Very low cost: the reward cost was fixed at two tickets, however many customers took part.

For retail chains, this shows that a well-designed retention campaign can beat discounting. It rewards loyal customers without cutting the margin on every sale.

5. A new product idea: the Ramadan Iftar Box (about 1,000 sold in about 10 days)

For Ramadan 2025, I proposed a product Apsara Bakes had never planned: a ready Iftar Box, bundling the bakery's snacks into one convenient pre-order pack for breaking the fast.

  • The product: an Iftar Box with dry fruits, ready-to-fry frozen snacks and a cut fruit bowl.
  • The launch: pre-orders opened from the 11th day of Ramadan, promoted through a single, clear creative.
  • The result: about 1,000 pieces sold in about 10 days.
  • The opportunity: a new seasonal product line the brand now plans to repeat and grow every Ramadan.

In the client's words

What the Apsara Bakes case study shows about bakery marketing

The campaigns follow one approach that works for most local food and retail brands:

  1. Earn attention with moments: react quickly to what people already care about.
  2. Turn traditions into events: make seasonal rituals public, shareable and searchable.
  3. Create new reasons to buy: seasonal products like the Iftar Box open new revenue without new outlets.
  4. Reward loyalty instead of discounting: one big prize can move thousands of customers.
  5. Be findable by people and AI: consistent names, facts and proof help search engines and AI assistants recommend you.
